Snowmaking Approved For Snowbowl?
It’s been talked about forever, it seems. But, it appears Arizona
Snowbowl’s efforts to get some snowmaking on the popular ski area above Flagstaff, Ariz., will
come to fruition for next season. The Coconino National Forest Draft Environmental Impact Statement
will allow the resort to pump up to 1.5 million gallons of reclaimed water per day from Flagstaff.
But, it’s not quite all over yet. There’s a 60-day public comment period and Native American
representatives who believe the “spirits” should dictate the weather, not pipes and snowguns, will
be very vocal. So, you can continue your ski trip next year with a “warm-down” in the

Putting Courage On Display

bit of raw courage in action. Bethany Hamilton, the young surfer whose arm was
bitten
off by a shark in Kauai, Hawaii, plans on a couple of days of snowboard lessons
at SG Magazine’s Queen of the Mountain snowboard event. Her teacher? Tara
Dakides, the champion rider who fell off a ramp outside the Ed Sullivan Theatre
during a taping of The Late Show with David Letterman, and came out of
the
hospital the next day joking about it. The actual “QOTM” competition is Feb.
21 and Bethany will cheer on the competitors. Be there and give Bethany and Tara
